Prevent Your Water Lines From Freezing

Last Fall, I moved from the flatlands of Ohio to the heavenly hills of Pennsylvania. Only being about 90 miles away from where I grew up, I decided to settle in Northwestern Pennsylvania. As winter moved in, I quickly realized that the winter weather was much different from Ohio.

The first day with freezing temperatures, I was surprised with a basement full of water! My pipes froze and burst apart right before the shut off valve! Filling my basement with over two feet of freezing cold water. Being new to the freezing pipes thing, I had no idea how it happened.

After I got the pipe fixed, my neighbor told me that the pipes usually freeze in the winter unless you leave your faucet on to a drip. So I did that. I haven't had a problem in the winter since.

So just for a winter safety precaution, I suggest you leave your bathroom and kitchen faucet on just enough to let it drip, so your pipes don't freeze.
