What inspired you to launch your own website?

I launched this website to become more competitive in my market. You really can't be too competitive these days. Without a website, you are lost, unless you are a brick and mortar company.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

I launched my first website in 1993. It was a computer sales website. It was a very successful website and generated vast amounts of money.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I needed a competitive name for the search engines. "Joe's Tile Website" just doesn't work anymore. It is a shame, but that is the way that it is. Business names now have to be SEO friendly.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

Simplicity makes my website work. I don't know if I am so different from anybody else. Everybody copies everybody else's websites. It is very difficult to come up with a truely original format.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

My website is for marketing purposes and I will keep it until I can't work anymore.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

My websites have always paid well. I provide a service that people need and they look for me. I have three businesses: Colorado Ceramic Tile; Colorado Handyman and Colorado Ceramic Tile Installation and Repair.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would hire a web site designer to build and maintain my websites.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

I would expand my business quickly by hiring more people. The problem with hiring people in the construction field is that they tend to drift or leave and start businesses for themselves. That is a really tricky question.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

I really haven't had any big surprises with costs. I really try to keep my advertising budget simple and to the point. I stay away from newspaper advertising. It is extremely expensive here in Colorado.

What has been your biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge has been the ever-growing number of businesses online using titles of my businesses in website pages and Google Adwords.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Submitting to search engines and word of mouth from customers.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It is becoming more of a challenge with the search engines.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

This site has been up a year and I will keep it up permanently.

What do I hope for?

To be successful marketing my website and expanding my business.

What is your website address?
