Please give us a short summary of your website?
This website provides information about a company that provides services to homeowners, contractors and attorneys for resolution of problems with swimming pool and spa construction. The president and founder of the company has over 40 years of experience in all phases of swimming pool construction.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
A need to get business and provide information to consumers or their agents regarding swimming pool construction.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
This is my first personal website. I have been involved in other business enterprises as an executive where websites have been created but, since I have started this new business this is my first.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I wanted a name that was descriptive of the services provided. My prime objective is to provide resolution to pool construction problems the name was obvious.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
There are very few people with the experience that I have. I am a licensed contractor in California and I have worked in every phase of the business from in-field labor to upper level management in a very large and successful company.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I intend to improve the site over time and keep it to secure more business.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
So far the investment has been minimal since I used a family member to create the site. I have been very pleased with the amount of business that has been created.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would like to make the site a little more artistic and attractive, but I do not think it should be too "slick". I definately need some better positioning on the search engines, and so I would invest in some Search Engine Optomization.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
I can handle a lot more work than I currently have, but it would be nice to be more selective if the amount of inquiries were sufficient. I do not think the demand would be overwhelming, although I have been very pleased with the results thus far.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Very few. My overhead is low, but I have had to spend more on office supplies and direct mail advertising than I had anticipated.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Getting interested parties to actually call or email me.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
I have signed up with a few companies that will, for a price, refer you to homeowners or attorneys who might need my services. Since my website is listed with each of these companies I have had more success.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
I have some experience with other companies where I worked so I am not surprised at the requirements.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
The site has been up for about 6 months now and I intend to keep it indefinitely.
What areas are you planning to service with your business?
I have found a lot of business in the San Francisco area as well as Southern California. I will focus on California, but I have received inquiries from other areas of the USA and will travel as required. I have been very successful in assisting with problem resolution by providing accurate and specific reports or by testimony.
