For all of you out there that know that your water heater is about to croak, consider a solar power water heater. It is earth friendly and produces much less greenhouse emissions than do typical water heaters. It doesn't really make sense for you to run out and buy one if your current water heater is working fine, but consider it if you are in need of an update.
All you need is a shade free south facing slope (so these aren't for everyone), or some people even put theirs on the roof if they so choose. The installation itself may be a little more complicated and expensive than water heaters of old, so do your research before hand. With the free solar energy though, who can complain. It will more than pay for itself over the years! An added bonus is there may be federal tax credits for those who choose this green water heating option.
