Kitchen and Bathroom Remodeling Disaster!

By dustin michael at 02/19/09 10:27

I was working on a remodel of a kitchen and bathroom. The house was a rental home so nobody was living in it at the time of the remodel. The kitchen was completely gutted out and redone. I ripped out the walls, floor ceiling, cabinets, and sink. After all that work was done I moved to the upstairs and began to remodel it.

During the bathroom remodel I had to take out and replace the vanity. I was busy trying to get the old one out and decided I would just cut the old water supply lines. While I was doing that I sent my buddy to go get me a new piece of PVC. He came back with the new water line and I finished the job.

Everything was done! I went to the basement and slowly cracked on the main water line valve. Everything sounded good. There was no water leaking so I turned the water the rest of the way on. I walked up from the basement, through the kitchen, and halfway up the stairs to the bathroom I hear a load bang and water everywhere!

I was so mad! It turns out my buddy bought me white PVC and I glued it to the cream colored PVC. I did not know this, but I guess you can't do that. The bathroom is right above the kitchen so as you would guess, water everywhere, over at the work I just did!The floor in both rooms held up to all the water. Fortunately, the only thing I had to do over was replace a few ceiling panels!
