The Home Decor Solution is the easiest way to get a professionally designed room. We have put together over 75 collections of home decor that have been coordinated by both color and style. Buy the whole room or select the pieces individually that will complete your look. Shop everything from accessories, bedding, lighting, fine art, rugs, mirrors and more!
What inspired you to launch your own website?
We run a home decor center in Vermont and wanted to find a way to help people around the country. Everyday our clients tell us: "I know what I like, I just need help putting it all together" This is our way to help people do this. We hand selected and coordinated 75 collections from our resources here at our design center.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
We launched our local website about 3 years ago. It is just an informational site that shows some past projects we have done. http://www.designmattersvt.com
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Naming this website was a lot harder than we expected it to be! We are doing something totally different from any other site out there. We are selling so many different categories of decor but also selling them as a group. We finally went back to our main inspiration.. answering the question about how to pull a room together. This website is the solution to that problem. Therefore The Home Decor Solution fit perfectly.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
We are very different from other sites. Yes, we sell lots of the same types of items as thousands of other sites out there; but we do the hard part for you. We literally hand selected and coordinated all the collections we offer. We took our favorite products from some of our companies and put them together to create stunning rooms. Not only did we do that but we took the idea even further. We brought in each rug that we offer in the collections and picked out 2 paint color choices for the walls and 2 upholstery fabric choices. All you need to do is email us and tell us which room you ordered and then we will respond which your color and fabric options! The easiest (and fastest) way to get a complete, professionally designed room in your home!
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
We want to keep our site going as long as we can. We hope to hire some more customer service employees and also designers to work full time on updating with new product. That way we can run our design center full time and get help on our website.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Of course the time and money investment was a little scary in the beginning but it has been so worth it! We absolutely love what we do.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
With an unlimited budget I think we would make things more interactive, we would add thousands of new products and also stage each collection with furniture and paint colors and take photos of the complete room. That would be an awful lot of sofas, but you did say and UNLIMITED budget!
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Absolutely. We are ready to take on as much business and our site can bring us.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Making our website look the way we wanted ended up costing much more than expected. As designers, we know that both function and beauty are important so we had high expectations and goals for our site.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Having Patience. Building a website like this does not happen over night. We were so excited to launch it and share it with everyone it was hard to wait for all the details to come together.
