First you need to get a recommendation from a friend. Be careful of responding to adverts of companies you do not know. And never pay up front. Make sure you pay in small amounts for work as and when completed. If the job is not completed to your satisfaction, do not pay the final amount until the contractor has been back to rectify. Most contractors add an amount on to the contract fee to ensure that they get back at least what they have spent and some profit, so beware of this too. You would withhold for work not completed and they just never come back to complete the job anyway. This is frustrating.
