Please give us a short summary of your website?My website is geared at giveing information how to start a decorating project.So we have included information on principles and elements of Design.Included is also information on how to do window treatment from scratch. We promote some simple and easy lessons on how to measure, cut and construt window treatment which may somewhat prove difficult to the marginaly trained and untrained individuals.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I am a teacher of Home Economics and a certified drape maker with training in interior decorating. There are so many individuals who approach me daily asking me to train them. I really do not have the time and believe that I should pass on the knowledge I have gain over the years to individuals world wide.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
I launched my first websire in June 2006.It is a site that gives information on Jamaica.http://www.specular jamaica.com.(Welcome To Jamaica) I also launched http://www.jamaicapoetry.com ( Welcome to Jamaica Poetry)in 2008.It gives instructions of Poetry writing techniques This present site decoratingservicesjm.com was launched in June 2010. I do hope to create a very poweful site as a go along.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I researched Key words surrounding what I wanted to write about and choose the name that was available at the time and most suited to my idea.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
I will be giving some personal input that I have accquired over the years.I will be opperating a Forum where individual who perchase lessons can ask me questions on projects they are embarking on and get reply.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
My goal is to keep this site as long as I can and to develop it to its maximum capacity.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
This is a pretty new site and so I have not assess it true potential as yeT. What I do Know is that the lessons are said to be helpful beccause the content covers a number of window treatment instructions and is good value for money. The other sites are holding their own but no grand bang. I still need to advertise them more.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would employ a website builder but I do not have an unlimited budget so I am building this site myself and I am not a professional web technician. I am learning as I go along but it is fun while I learn.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
I think I would be able to keep up since I will be retiring my day job in the next 4 months. If I do make enough revenue then I could employ some help
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
At the moment There is no unexpected cost but as I expand I expect I will have to invest in a better camera and video equipment. I will have to invest in fabrics for window treatment to give an idea as to how the drapes should look and will invest in advertisement
What has been your biggest challenge?
Time is my biggest challenge and to write quality articles. Writing the lessons instructions ensuring they are accurate and give the correct results.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
I have submitted to search engines such as google Yahoo and MSN.I have submitted to a few other search engines and is now submitting to directories. I cannot give an accurate reply because I am trying to get in as much directories as I can for free before I decide on which ones to pay for listing.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It is not much different than what I had expected because it is fairly new and I expect it will take some time before it takes off as I expect it to.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
I have run this site since June 2010 and will continue until I am too old, then I will pass it on to my granddaughter or sell it then.
What do you hope to get from this website.
First and foremost satisfaction that My knowledge is benefitting someone and that I will be still useful even after I have retired. I also expect to supplement my pension so that I do not live below the standard I now life
